Oh Jill, this was beautiful and refreshed the grief I still feel over losing my beloved Cola last summer. He was with me for 18 years- longer in our home than our two kids, through all the peaks of life and some very deep
Valleys. I miss him every single day. Sending so much love.
Cola was SUCH a great dog! I loved his attitude, and how even when he had way surpassed the age that most dogs do, he was still “Cola.” We were just talking about how your mom used to shred cheese over his kibble :D
So beautifully written. I am snuggling my two dogs a little longer this morning after being reminded they won’t always be with me. Howie sounds like the “best boy” but aren’t they all?
Thank you so much, Mary. That means a lot. Give your pups an extra scratch behind the ears from me—writing this reminded me how much these quiet, everyday moments matter. And yes… they really are all the best boy or girl, aren’t they? 💛
Noelle and Howie trailing over the rainbow bridge brings me comfort. They were our steady guides until we reached our next turn in the road. Howie will be so missed!
No matter how long they are with us, it is never quite long enough -- and they leave such a hole when they're gone. Your post created a vivid picture for me of the special bond you two had.
Mango left us all too soon at 2 1/2years old of a rare autoimmune disease, but we still talk about her on the many trails we walk down with her. ❤️ hugs to you and yours. ❤️
Thank you for this, Jill. So grateful for this connection.

Lola walked beside me through the hardest times of my life, including my mom's death. She was right there with us the whole time.

Very nice. Howie was a good dog. MG
I’m glad you were one of the last ones to see him before he passed 🩵

Thanks @Rachelle. I love that you called them “The OG Trail Dogs of Outdoor Book Club!”

Thank you, Jill. What a lovely tribute to that dear, good boy.
