Excellent post. I nearly backed out of walking a trail because it was labelled as difficult. As I was walking with a group the leader explained the rating was due to a short uphill stretch that required a bit of flexibility to negotiate rocks. The rest of the trail was actually much easier than the previous day's medium rated hike.

More description would be welcomed by people like me too. I'm 64 and not so confident in my body.

Huge admiration of you.

Thank you so much for sharing this—and for your honesty.

You're exactly the kind of trail user I’m building WanderABLE for.

Labels like “easy,” “moderate,” or “difficult” are often misleading. What’s “easy” to a trail runner might feel completely different to someone navigating joint pain, low stamina, or just trying to feel safe in a group. That short rocky stretch you mentioned? That’s the kind of detail most apps leave out—but it makes all the difference in whether someone decides to go or stay home.

This is why I’m pushing for trail reviews that tell the full story—surface, slope, rest stops, and real-world surprises—so people like you can plan with confidence, not guesswork.

You're not alone in feeling uncertain. And you're definitely not alone in wanting more detailed info.

Huge admiration right back at you for showing up—and for speaking up. We’d be honored if you ever wanted to leave a review yourself. Because your voice could help someone else say “yes” to the trail, too.
