I recently found a journal I wrote during a family trip to Belize. I wrote about every day in painstaking detail, and this allowed me to relive those moments so much more vividly than all of my photos can do. Now I remember what was said, what I was thinking, how the kids responded. Such a gift I forgot I had! Now I plan to do this for every trip I take. Why did I stop? I'll still take some photos, though. š
I kept a detailed journal during my all-women backpacking trip to Isle Royale about 10 years ago. I wrote about wolf howls, loons, blisters and rainstorms. Itās one of my most prized possessions.
This reminds me of the "penny walks" I would take with my kids when they were little: At each street corner, we'd flip a coin to see which direction we'd go. It was a fun way to mix up our daily walks (FUN FACT: I actually joined the Army on a coin flip, so you know I'm a big fan of leaving things up to fate!).
Love this! When I travel and especially when I talk to others who are about to travel I always tell them to ātalk to strangers and eat everything.ā
The art of travel is something folks often forget in the crush to āsee it all.ā
Bring postcard stamps, Buy postcards and write trip anecdotes and memories, mail them to my husband and adult children, so we have written memories of sites we visit.
This is a PHENOMENAL idea! Postcards are a low-stakes way to write down your impressions of a place. I'm stealing this idea for our Italy trip! (But planning on sending them to myself!)

My husband has never met a stranger. I donāt have that ability. I love experiencing all that, as long as heās by my side! I try to emulate that!
You & your husband sound like my kind of people!
