I love hearing your story. I'm a slow hiker, or what I like to say, stop and smell the roses type of hiker. I've always paid attention to smells, the air, and sound too. Was a classical musician, a nature photographer. So I love hearing your perspective.
One of my favorite hiking buddies is a photographer, and she’s always in the back, stopping to catch a wildflower or a gorgeous close up of a mossy rock. We make a great team :) Thanks for the feedback ❤️
Lovely! I can see how your photographer friend would fall back.
It's been rare for me to find a good slow hiking companion. So I mostly go alone. Only once when I lived in SC I found good hiking companions. My friend and her husband are amateur naturalists, and avid birders that had even taken courses. We Etsy a volunteer creek clean-up event. I didn't know it at first, but she was the head of the local Audubon society. We were in our element enjoying nature at the same pace.
Which by the way, this morning woke up to a beautiful day in the 50s. I was on my porch drinking my coffee and a neighbor walking her dog invited me to a small hike with her dog. 🙂 🥾⛰️
Jill, this was not only a vivid and beautiful description of your relationship with nature, but a window into a spiritual experience that we could all access. Thank you!
As an avid desert hiker and nature therapy guide, your story is very meaningful to me right now as I navigate my own vision challenges. Thank you for sharing your trail experience, it is a beautiful reminder to expand our sensory experience and trust the trail.
I really appreciate you saying this, Suzi. And I wish you all the best as you head into this new “adventure.” I don’t want to make it sound like it’s easy, because it’s not. But I would rather be out in the world, even if it’s scary, than stuck inside, alone and isolated. Your encouragement makes us all braver!

Oh Jean, thank you! It’s as much a reminder to myself as anything. But hearing your kind words inspires me even more to keep going ❤️
