Day 4: Signs of Life in the Wild
What small wonders will you discover today?
Heroine, today is all about noticing the hidden, the subtle, the often-overlooked.
Your prompt for Day 4:
Look for signs of life outdoors: an animal track, a bird’s call, or a budding branch. Reflect on what it symbolizes for you.
Winter (at least for some of us!) might feel like nature’s quiet season, but look closely and you’ll see the wild is still brimming with life. Maybe you spot footprints crisscrossing a snowy path or hear a bird chirping like it’s auditioning for the next great audiobook.
As you look for these signs, think about this: What are the signs of life and growth in your own story right now?
Share your discoveries in the comments or on Substack Notes, and tag your reflections with #LoveTheWild.Whether it’s a photo of what you noticed or a few words about how it inspired you, your story might just spark someone else’s curiosity.
Here’s to finding life—even in the quietest seasons,
Jill

After all the fresh snow we got yesterday, my yard was a blank canvas, for a minute at least. By now, there are tracks from deer and some wild turkeys, and by our porch, from squirrels and possibly mice. Seeing tracks in the snow is one of my favorite things--one of the great joys of winter hiking, or just meandering around the outside of my house.
This morning in the dark when I opened the sliding glass doors to let the dogs out, the blast of cold air that hit my face—well, it wasn’t that cold. It’s February & won’t get warm for several months, but this small warm up we’ve been having lately reminds me that my life really is just a series of different types of winds blowing. Some soft, some strong, some chilly, some warm—if I can simply be with them in the moment, and not fight them, life is a lot more pleasant, if not meaningful.
