Day 19: Plan Your Next Wild Adventure
Dream up an outdoor experience to look forward to
Hey there Heroine,
One of the best parts of loving the wild is knowing there’s always another adventure waiting.
Your prompt for Day 19:
Plan a future outdoor experience—whether it’s a hike, a picnic, a camping trip, or simply watching the sunset from a new spot.
It doesn’t have to be a grand expedition. Maybe it’s revisiting a favorite trail, exploring a park you’ve never been to, or setting aside an afternoon to sit by the water with a book. The key is intention—giving yourself something to look forward to.
And if you need a little push to make it happen, invite someone to join you. Adventures (big or small) are even better when shared.
Leave a comment or share your plans on Substack Notes, and tag it with #LoveTheWild. What’s the next outdoor moment you’re creating for yourself? I’d love to hear what’s on your horizon.
Here’s to the adventures ahead,
Jill
Planning an outdoor adventure is one of my favorite things--I love having something to look forward to! In addition to our Outdoor Book Club adventures, I have a trip to Isle Royale coming up this summer, with a friend who has never been there before. This will be my third visit, but we'll be exploring a section I haven't experienced before, so there is an element of the unknown, but also lots of good resources to use in our planning.
However, I am a firm believer in flexibility, especially on backpacking trips. You never know what weather might throw your way, or if there will be other factors that slow you down. And, sometimes a place is just so gorgeous that you want to stay there longer, and I like the flexibility in an itinerary to account for those things.
In addition to the route planning, checking over my mountains of gear to figure out what will provide the best comfort to pack weight balance is another element of planning that I love, and each trip is also good incentive to keep up with my fitness routine so that I can do my best to conquer each hill!

I have a few planned, a weekend away with friends at hunting camp and hiking a state forest trail that I have been trying to finish (hike all the miles), a week hiking the AT in April, a week in the UP in June. A girls mid-week adventure to hike, Bear Mountain and Anthony's Nose in New York and stay at the Bear Mountain Inn. Two weeks in Colorado in August. And I am sure a few beach and camping trips will get planned along the way. I love the planning process, and the researching
